Ever Changing. . . .

In the ever changing world of autism, I realized that a static website is just not going to cut it! I am constantly running across new research, intervention opportunities, ideas, articles, etc. So the AUTISM BLOG page is new to teresacardon.com. My plan is to include helpful information, links, and other autism related posts that you can visit at your leisure. 

 

For starters, I wanted to link to an interesting article that provided some food for thought:

I have had several individuals with autism (I believe I just gave away my preference) tell me that they are autists or autistic. Their brain is autistic and they are autistic. While I respect every individuals personal preference, as a speech language pathologist and an educator, I have been taught "person first" language for decades. I teach all of my students person first langauge. It would certainly be a hard habit to break, but for now, I am not sure I would feel comfortable breaking the habit. Is my discomfort disrespectful to those that prefer the term "autistic". As I said before, the article provided some food for thought . . . . and apparently, I am still thinking . . . .
